In recent days, the CEREUS Network sites UB.com and Absolute Poker unveiled security tokens, providing an extra layer of protection for player accounts. If you’ve never heard of security tokens before, they are handheld devices that display a numeric code. When you log into your online poker account, you’ll be prompted for your user name, password, and code. If your account details were to be compromised, a would-be hacker still would be unable to log into your account without knowing the code displayed on your security token.
The numeric code constantly changes and is in sync with the UB.com and Absolute Poker servers. Text found on UB.com explains the importance of coming armed to the felts with a security token: “The security token is a 'one-button' device based on proven technology entrusted by banks and other organizations looking to effectively combat unauthorized account access. With a single press of the button, a one-time security token code is displayed. The code is then used to complete the login process. This code is unique and can only be used at the moment it is generated.”
In an age of intelligent hackers and worldwide cyber-security issues, a security token is very necessary. The feature has been available on sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker for quite some time, but recently found its way to UB.com and Absolute Poker. We should point out that a security token isn’t free. Instead, it’s available for 6,500 points from the UB Store. Full Tilt and PokerStars also offer the device in their respective points stores.
If you enter your account information incorrectly three times in a row, you’ll be locked out. Then, you’ll need to contact UB.com or Absolute Poker security in order to regain access. Additionally, you can active and deactivate your security token as you please.
Also available on the CEREUS Network is a SecureID Pin, which text found on UB.com explains is “a five digit number, selected by you, that adds an additional method of authentication to your account. Once your SecureID Pin has been activated, you’ll be asked to enter it to complete the login process and if you’re logged in but inactive for 30 minutes or more.” In order to log in, you’ll need your user name, password, and Pin. Without all three, you won’t be perusing the USA-friendly felts.
The SecureID Pin is completely free and available to every member of the CEREUS Network sites. In order to active it, log into UB.com or Absolute Poker and visit the Cashier. Then, head for the “Account Info” tab and look for “Manage SecureID.” You’ll need to e-mail or call UB.com or Absolute Poker support if you forget the five-digit number, which would ideally be something more complex than 1-2-3-4-5.
According to PokerScout.com, the CEREUS Network is the ninth largest network worldwide in terms of real money ring game traffic with a seven-day running average of 1,780 cash game players. It regularly sees peak traffic approaching 3,000 cash game players and is the third largest network to accept players from the United States.
